This traditional shawl has been worn for centuries in the mountains on the Indo-Tibetan border and in the foothills of the Himalayas. The nomadic tribal artisans have exemplary design skills. It has been designed by tribal artisans of the Bodh and Lahula tribes of Ladakh.
MATERIAL: HIMALAYAN SHEEP WOOL
The wool of the shawl comes from a unique variety of sheep that is known for its warm fleece. The local wool is procured from the sheep of the Himalayan valley in India. The wools of sheep are cleaned and spun in the local mills to make the soft fiber. Moreover, it can be dyed quite easily and effectively, and for that reason, the wool is tinted in bright colors.
WEAVING:
This shawl is made by using the traditional loom. The Weaving technique is tilt process of weaving. In this procedure, the woolen shawls are manually made by winding, drafting, denting, pulling, and adjusting as per the requirement. The geometric decoration of the border of the shawl is woven as basketweave. The artisans use the color graph as the reference for the design that they will weave manually.
