HIMALAYAN " LAMA " MONK BUDDHIST SHEEP WOOL MEDITATION SHAWL/WRAP :
Tibet has a large number of Tibetan monks, and most of its people are followers of Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan monks or lamas play a major role in the lives of the Tibetan people, conducting religious ceremonies and taking care of the monasteries. Tibet has the largest number of monks in the world, with almost 1/3 of the population being monks. Tibetan monks are considered to be the ultimate followers of Tibetan Buddhism. Therefore, the costumes of Tibetan monks are also a significant part of Tibetan culture.
Our "Buddhist Meditation Shawl" is a traditional hand-loomed shawl handcrafted by traditional artisans of the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh, North India. This traditional shawl has been worn for centuries in the mountains on the Indo-Tibetan border and in the foothills of the Himalayas.
In Tibet, red is the color of the sacred realm. While all shades have their place in temples and monasteries, burgundy belongs to the ordained monks or nuns, of whom there are thousands spread over the whole plateau
PRODUCT DESIGN :
This design is inspired by the Traditional Kullu Jamawar Weave design. It is plain and simple but universally liked and used by both Men and Women. Extra care has been taken in the production to ensure a soft feel owing to its smooth texture. It will give a cozy and warm feeling in cold winters.
The full size of the shawl makes it easy to drape and team it up with just about anything, right from wrapping yourself during the morning cup of tea to an evening out enjoying live music in the outdoors
MATERIAL OF THE SHAWL:
This wool of the blanket comes from a special variety of sheep that is known for its warm fleece. The local wool is procured from the sheep of the Himalayan valley in India. During the summer season, the sheep migrate to the higher hills with the shepherds. With the advent of winter, they are brought back to their villages located in the valley. During the autumn and spring seasons, they shear the sheep for wool. The wools of sheep are cleaned and spun in the local mills to make the soft fiber. Moreover, it can be dyed quite easily and effectively, and for that reason, the wool is tinted in bright colors.
WEAVING OF THE HIMALAYAN SHAWL:
This shawl is made by using a traditional loom. The Weaving technique is the tilt process of weaving.. In this procedure, the woolen shawls are manually made by winding, drafting, denting, pulling, and adjusting as per the requirement. The geometric decoration of the shawl border is woven as a basketweave with the help of a slit-tapestry or dovetailing technique. The artisans use the color graph as the reference for the design that they will weave manually.
