Made from pure Tibetan brocade fabric, this dress can be used during prayers and meditation. It is made in the Refugee Centre in Delhi by our Tibetan tailors. The robe is made up of high-quality Tibetan brocade fabric, suitable for both summer and winter seasons. This dress is suitable for Buddhist monks, nuns, and layman meditation practitioners. This is a complete set of pure cotton Tibetan Buddhist Lama Robe. This set contains four pieces of garments:
1. SAFFRON COLOR COTTON SHIRT / BLOUSE: THE NGUYEN
It is sleeveless garments worn by monks. It is yellow saffron and maroon in color and made out of pure cotton fabric.
2. SAFFRON SKIRT: THE SHAMTHAP
This lower robe is sewn to look like a patched-up cloth, a deterrent from possible attachment to an object of value, such as a piece of quality cloth. In the past, the shamthap was sewn up from many pieces while today it is merely made to look patched.
The Gelugpa tradition dictates that the shamthap be draped with the fold on the right side turning towards the back, symbolizing a monk or nun's renouncement of worldly life and negative actions. The folds on the left turn towards the front, meaning their commitment to the Buddhist path and the virtuous activities that will contribute to accumulating merit.
3. MONK ROBE BELT :
This robe comes with a handwoven waist belt. This belt is a waist belt that is tied around the waist.
This is what they call the waistband. This waistband is made according to the Buddhist tradition and designed using high-quality fabrics. This is a yellow stripe.
4. MONK's JACKET: THE DHONKA
This LONG sleeve upper garment was created in the time of Tsong Khapa, in the 14th century.
Made of saffron yellow Tibetan brocade fabrics, its protruding shoulders are said to represent the fearlessness of one engaged on the path of enlightenment.
