TIBETAN BUDDHIST LAMA MONK JACKET : THE DHONKA
Tibet has a large number of Tibetan monks and most of its people are followers of Tibetan Buddhism. Tibetan monks or lamas play a major role in the lives of the Tibetan people, conducting religious ceremonies and taking care of the monasteries. Tibet has the largest number of monks in the world with almost 1/3 of the population being a monk. Tibetan monks are considered to be the ultimate followers of Tibetan Buddhism. Therefore, the costumes of Tibetan monks are also a significant part of Tibetan culture.
In Tibet, burgundy red is the color of the sacred realm. While all shades have their place in temples and monasteries, burgundy belongs to the ordained monks or nuns, of whom there are thousands spread over the whole plateau
The Jacket is made up of high-quality cotton, suitable for both summer and winter seasons.
This Jacket is suitable for both Buddhist monks and nuns.

MONK's JACKET: THE DHONKA
This sleeveless upper garment was created in the time of Tsong Khapa, in the 14th century.
Made of burgundy cotton fabrics, its protruding shoulders are said to represent the fearlessness of one engaged on the path of enlightenment. The blue piping stands for the blue worn by Chinese monks. Following the destruction of Buddhism by King Langdarma in the 9th century, three monks escaped north to Amdo province from where they revived the Sangha or religious community. To ordain new monks, the Vinaya requires a quorum of five ordained monks, and they invited two blue-clad Chinese monks to join them. This detail in the chogeu is in homage to them.
